Films from the Archives online film night — Our Rivers — Masters or Servants
Wednesday 3 February 2021 at 7 p.m.
Archivists from the Archives of Manitoba introduced three films about Manitoba rivers, flooding and the Red River Floodway. These films include “Our Rivers – Masters or Servants” (1963) which has extensive footage of the 1950 flood, “Locking Through” (1968), a film made for schools about the St. Andrews Lock and Dam, and “Red River Floodway” (1969) which documents the construction and opening of one of the biggest excavation projects in Canadian history.
Films from the Archives online film night — Impressions of the Hudson’s Bay Company
Wednesday 27 January 2021 at 7 p.m.
Archivists from the Archives of Manitoba introduced three films from the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives at this film night. These films include footage created for “Romance of the Far Fur Country” in 1919 to commemorate the Company’s 250th anniversary (in 1920), the design and construction of the replica ship, “Nonsuch”, in 1968, and “Impressions”, a striking film made to celebrate the Company’s 300th anniversary in 1970.
Films from the Archives online film night — Why be a farmer?
Wednesday 20 January 2021 at 7 p.m.
At this third online film night, archivists from the Archives of Manitoba introduced three films related to food and farming in Manitoba. These films depict agriculture as a growing industry in the 1950s, Manitoba’s “Salad Month” initiative in the mid-1960s and the story of a musician who takes over the family farm in the late 1970s.
Films from the Archives online film night - Government promotional films
Wednesday December 16, 2020 at 7 p.m.
Archivists introduced three government promotional films from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s which document a survey group in northern Manitoba, a fashion show featuring made-in-Manitoba designs and indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy in Manitoba in winter.
Films from the Archives online film night - Home movies
Wednesday December 9, 2020 at 7 p.m.
Archivists introduced three home movies from the Archives. These home movies show Norway House in the 1930s, Winnipeg during the 1950 flood and Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Brandon in 1959.

Indigenous Afternoons in the Archives
Wednesday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (bi-weekly until April 22, 2020)
Learn from local researchers and academics, who will be on site to assist clients with Indigenous-focused research. These bi-weekly events are being held in collaboration with the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous People, History, and Archives (University of Winnipeg) and the Manitoba Indigenous Tuberculosis Photo Project.
