Active Living
The Department of Mental Health and Community Wellness provides funding to community organizations to provide information, programs and services to support Manitobans to be active. Keeping active has many benefits, it:
- increases your energy levels
- helps us manage stress
- strengthens the heart and lungs
- can result in a better quality of life for people of all ages
Supporting Community Efforts
The Department of Mental Health and Community Wellness provides funding to the following active living programs:
- Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program: an after-school physical activity program that:
- promotes positive mental health
- offers cultural activities and healthy foods
- offers physical activities
- Canadian Tire Jumpstart: provides sports equipment and resources
- Physical and Health Educators of Manitoba: provides leadership, advocacy and resources in physical education
- Sports Medicine & Science Council of Manitoba: a member association for those in sport medicine and science, offering conferences, research and public education
- Winnipeg Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council: supports youth and youth leaders in Northern communities to develop leadership skills and community development strategies
- Green Action Centre: delivers the Active and Safe Routes to School program and encourages walking, biking and other ways to get to and from school
