We all want -- and deserve -- to feel safe at home, on our streets and in our communities.
That's why we've taken a balanced approach to crime that addresses root causes like homelessness, addiction challenges and mental health issues, while also getting tough on violent crime and violent criminals.
We invested more than $50 million in a comprehensive homelessness strategy that includes increased funding for overnight shelters, transitional housing and rent subsidies. We committed $9.4 million to create 1,000 new publicly funded addiction treatment spaces to support more Manitobans on their recovery journey. And we invested $17.3 million to advance more priority mental health initiatives.
Our two-year, $51.8-million Violent Crime Strategy will enhance policing and public safety initiatives to crack down on crime. We're adding 29 new Crown attorneys to prosecute violent criminals. And we continue to fight for federal bail reforms to stop the revolving door of justice.
