Gas and Oil
The Gas and Oil Program at Inspection and Technical
Services is responsible for overseeing residential, industrial and commercial
use of natural gas, propane, digester gas, manufactured gas, liquefied
petroleum gas, landfill gas and hydrogen throughout Manitoba in accordance with
the Gas and Oil Burners Act and regulation.
Under the Gas and Oil Burning Regulation, the Gas and
Oil Program:
- Issues permits for all gas and oil burning equipment
installations
- Approves piping plans for all installations over 400,000
BTU
- Inspects and approves gas and oil-fired equipment that
is not certified for use by a recognized testing agency
- Tests and licences trades people who work with gas and
oil
- Conducts field inspections to help enforce safety
standards
- Investigates serious incidents involving fuel-burning
equipment
