Budget 2018 puts Manitoba's economy on the road to recovery and provides a solid plan for making Manitoba the most improved province in Canada.

We're investing in priorities that support communities across Manitoba including:

• offering unconditional basket funding to municipalities across the province, which streamlines and simplifies the delivery of grants and gives municipalities total flexibility to address local needs and emerging priorities;
• maintaining unconditional basket funding for operating grants at 2017-18 levels providing a total of $312 million in grants to municipalities including:
• a $115.5-million unconditional operating grant to the City of Winnipeg; and
• $37.1 million in unconditional operating grants to other municipalities;
• investing more than $20 million in community development funding including a new intake for projects through the Community Places, Hometown Manitoba, Neighbourhoods Alive! and Partner 4 Growth funding programs;
• 11 per cent funding increase for the Community Places Program achieved through eliminating duplication of administrative services, increasing funding to community groups with the direct disbursement of grants previously distributed by the Manitoba Community Services Council;
• committing up to $5 million over three years to create the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program to engage community foundations across the province in raising private capital that is accessible to Manitoba's 200 museums and 36 archives;
• continuing support for youth employment, with a $4 million investment in the Green Team program; and
• supporting and hosting the Canadian Institute of Planning national conference, which will bring more than 800 delegates from across Canada and bring a significant economic benefit.
